Achievements

When she was elected in 2021, Sophie made four key commitments alongside her colleagues in the Outaouais caucus: to prioritize affordable housing, secure funding for essential infrastructure, expand transportation options to improve connectivity, and protect our green spaces, including Gatineau Park.

She kept her word on all fronts.

Core commitments

Housing

Programs such as the Rapid Housing Initiative and the Housing Accelerator Fund have helped increase the supply of affordable housing. The new Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund will ensure that communities have the necessary services to support this growth. This has made it possible, among other things, to complete the Habitations Au cœur de la Vallée project in Gracefield, with 26 units for people with disabilities or with low to moderate incomes, as well as the new six-storey student residence at the Université du Québec en Outaouais (UQO), which includes 79 apartments and 131 rooms to address the shortage of student housing.

Transport

Thanks to her hard work, Sophie secured funding for the planning study of the Gatineau–Ottawa tramway, a transformative electric transportation project linking western Gatineau to downtown Ottawa.

Green spaces

Sophie introduced a bill to grant official legal protection to Gatineau Park and launched Kidjimaninan (“Our Canoe”), a conservation project led by the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg Indigenous community.

Infrastructure

Sophie ensured the full completion of the Operation High Speed Canada–Quebec project, allowing all households in Quebec to have access to high-speed internet. She also announced a $70.4-million investment to improve road infrastructure in the Outaouais region, including the widening of Pink Road to ease traffic flow and enhance connectivity.

Other commitments

Beyond these commitments, Sophie has delivered other tangible results for the region:

  • Secured $2.14 billion for Telesat, creating 300 tech jobs in the emerging space economy of the Outaouais.

  • Announced $6 million for the Laiterie de l’Outaouais to strengthen food security and support regional producers.

  • Delivered $6.5 million for 42 projects for seniors, while expanding access to dental care through the Canada Dental Care Plan.

  • Obtained $58.8 million to extend the Local Journalism Initiative, strengthening community media serving rural and Indigenous areas.

Sophie continues to demonstrate leadership, delivering tangible results and advocating a clear vision for a greener and more prosperous Outaouais.

A Strong Canada!

We are going through a period of uncertainty. As the world changes unpredictably and erratic policies emerge from our closest neighbor, many of you feel anxious about the future – and that is normal.

But Canada has always shown resilience, and we will do so again. Our strength is our unity.

President Trump threatens our economy and way of life, but we will not be intimidated. Americans do not want this trade war with Canada, and when they feel its effects, they will react. Until then, we must stand firm and protect our future.

In these difficult times, leadership matters. Mark Carney is a brilliant economic strategist and a committed Canadian. Under his guidance, we will overcome this crisis and emerge stronger. Mark is the leader we need to stand up to Trump.

A government led by Pierre Poilievre would pose too great a risk with his MAGA and divisive policies. Meanwhile, the Bloc remains powerless to protect Quebec’s interests. More than ever, we must be united across Canada, not fueling divisions. Quebec must have a strong voice within the government – a voice capable of standing up to Trump and defending our culture and values with determination. With your support, I will be that voice – for Pontiac, for Quebec, and for a stronger Canada.

We must act with ambition: strengthen our economic and food autonomy, build the strongest economy in the G7 – a united Canadian economy, not thirteen separate ones – and deepen our ties with Europe, Asia, and Africa, while defending our values on the international stage. Pontiac has always been a land of builders and leaders.

Together, we will shape a future where Canada stands tall, proud, and strong.

Strong leadership for a stronger Pontiac

In times of uncertainty, Pontiac needs stable and experienced leadership.

As a Member of Parliament, Sophie Chatel brings international expertise and a proven track record to protect our economy, defend local industries, and strengthen Canada–U.S. relations. Her commitment ensures jobs, economic resilience, and new business opportunities for communities in the region.

Sophie is also a strong voice for ambitious climate action, offering concrete solutions: direct incentives for greener choices, enhanced energy efficiency programs, and support for clean investments that reduce costs for families and businesses in Pontiac.

Her fiscal approach combines discipline with ambition: investing in housing, infrastructure, clean energy, and technology to create good jobs and build a more resilient future.

Thanks to Sophie Chatel’s leadership, Pontiac is moving forward with confidence – toward a greener, more prosperous, and more united future.

Protecting Gatineau Park for future generations

Did you know that Gatineau Park has no legal status?

Since her election as MP for Pontiac–Kitigan Zibi, Sophie has aimed to make Gatineau Park a true park! This natural treasure, with its exceptional biodiversity, must be preserved for the community and their children.

In the summer of 2024, she had the honor of working with Senator Rosa Galvez to draft a bill to protect Gatineau Park. This bill aims to establish clear official boundaries and preserve the park for the Canadian people, dedicated to their benefit, education, and enjoyment. The park’s ecological integrity will be safeguarded, and it will be maintained and used in a way that keeps it intact for future generations.

Kidjīmāninān Biodiversity Project

A bold initiative led by Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg to protect biodiversity in the Outaouais

“It is our relationship with the land and our desire to protect it for future generations that will unite us as a people.” – Anishinabeg Elder

In anticipation of COP15 in Montreal, the Outaouais hosted the regional COP15 in November 2022, which gave rise to Kidjīmāninān – “our canoe” – an initiative led by the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg community in collaboration with local municipalities and environmental organizations. The goal: to make the Outaouais the pioneering region in Canada for achieving regional biodiversity targets of COP15, including protecting at least 30% of the territory by 2030.

Thanks to Sophie’s leadership and a collective effort, $2 million in funding from Environment and Climate Change Canada was secured to launch the project. This first phase will allow Indigenous and non-Indigenous partners to begin developing a regional roadmap. By mobilizing regional leaders, Indigenous communities, environmental organizations, industries, and citizens, the initiative promotes collaborative conservation efforts and brings the community together around protecting nature.

Investing in conservation is also investing in the future: creating jobs, developing eco-friendly tourism, and strengthening climate resilience. Together, we are building a greener and more prosperous Outaouais!

Green Book

From Global to Local and from Local to Global in the Outaouais (coming in 2025)

This guide is aimed at elected officials and offers an innovative approach to inspire them to adopt a similar initiative to “For a Green and Prosperous Outaouais” in their own regions. The ambition is clear: to help strengthen our country by focusing on local solutions to address global challenges.

The guiding principles of this book include:

  • Linking major national and international policies to their concrete implementation at the local level.

  • Mobilizing stakeholders for strong collective engagement.

  • Pooling resources and efforts to maximize their impact.

As an MP, Sophie believes it is essential not only to play a role as a positive influence but also to act as a catalyst on the ground, turning ideas into concrete community action. We share a responsibility, not only to the communities we represent but also to future generations.
